Tornadoes
1. Many of the layers of the tornado go in many different direction and speeds.
2. Between these layers, a column of air starts spinning like a log. 3. Upward winds lift one end of the spinning column. 4. Winds in the tornado move at hundreds of kilometers per hour. 5. Downward winds push down on the other end. |
6. Once the spinning column hits the ground it is called a tornado.
7. Tornadoes only last for a few minutes. 8. The winds of the tornado can move cars and building really easy. 9. In the Southern states, tornadoes happen from March through May. 10. In the Northern states, tornadoes happen in late spring through early summer. |
How to PREPARE for a tornado
1. If you hear a tornado warning take shelter right away.
2. The best place to take shelter is in a basement.
3. If you don't have a basement go to a closet or a windowless room in the center of the building.
